As an Expeditionary Learning (EL) school, the school’s curriculum will draw on EL Core Practices. In an EL school, learning is active, public, meaningful, challenging, and collaborative.
The core content will be mapped to the new Common Core standards ensuring excellence within a 21st century learning model. The school’s curriculum will be student-centered and emphasize depth over breadth, promoting learning for students with various learning styles, interests, and abilities. Student voice will be seen as essential to the learning process and students will participate in the evaluation of their own learning through classroom discussion, student-led progress conferences, and 10th and 12th grade Rite of Passage requirements. The majority of content in core classes will be taught through expeditions that address issues of diversity, equity and social justice.
